  • Aveda Hair Care, the Products I Love, and Don't - But Mostly Love!

Aveda hair care products are one of the highest quality, and purest, most natural of the bunch today. Even with the popularity of natural and organic hair care and cosmetics, Aveda has still managed to maintain a stronghold and a reputation as a high quality product, offered only in licensed, high end salons for sale, and only select places online as well. The reason for this is that Aveda actually offers styling training to stylists, and they come out as some of the most top notch, sought after stylists who end up working in "Aveda licensed" salons.

I've personally tried several Aveda products, and I genuinely believe they are a high quality product that is worth the little bit of extra cost you might pay as opposed to, say, a drug store brand. They really are infused with the highest quality natural and herbal ingredients, and they smell great. Every time I use my Be Curly hair curl lotion, I feel like I've just taken a romp in the woods. Their smells very much coincide with the image they are trying to project. And that is, natural hair care products from a top notch company that are good for you hair.

The Aveda Styling Product Line : A Review

First off, my all time favorite Aveda hair styling product is one that helps manage curls and tame frizz, and it is by far the best product I've ever used to help tame, separate and manage my out of control waves when I am going for a wavy or curly look instead of my usual straight, sleek look. It's called Be Curly. It smells like a forest, and has a light lotion-like texture. The formula helps to texturize, without volumizing, which I like. It also creates more definition without frizz. I load up on this stuff, which is unusual for me, who usually tries to skimp on the application.

I notice the more generous I am with the amount I use, the better the product works, and the best part is, it doesn't feel gunky or weight down my hair, as some other curl-taimers may do. Aveda just came out with a full line of the Be Curly products. The full line I believe consists of a shampoo for defrizzing, and curl definition, a conditioner for the same, the Be Curly curl control lotion, and a Be Curly styling stick that can be used on dry hair to help define, defrizz and separate your curls. I might have to be trying the whole system soon. It depends on whether I decide to get my hair chemically straightened for the summer time or not though.

Review : Aveda Brilliant Line of Styling Products for Shine, Brilliance

The Brilliant line of styling products is one I just recently started to get into. I am now using the Brilliant Universal Styling cream, which at first I wasn't sure about due to it's slightly sticky, thick texture when putting it on, but it really does have a remarkable smoothing, calming effect on the hair when blown dry. It also has a great smell.

The one product I tried in the Brilliant hair care line from Aveda was the Brilliant spray on shine spray. I didn't care for it's heavy alcohol scent, and I believe it dried my hair out, so I stopped using it. There are also shampoos available in the Brilliant line which are great. They are moisturizing, and focus on creating more shine and a natural sheen without too much buildup on the hair, which I like. As I said, the only product in the Brilliant line I didn't like was the shine spray. It just wasn't for me.

Shampure and Damage Remedy Restructure Conditioner

Now, to get into the shampoos and conditioners that Aveda offers, and that I like. The Shampure is a purifying shampoo, and also comes in a conditioner. I found that this formula did leave my hair free of styling buildup, and left it looking "revitalized", not as dull, and overall, pretty good.

I don't know if I'd recommend using this all the time, since it is purifying, you may want to use a heavy moisturizing treatment like the Damage Remedy Restructure Conditioner once a week with it as well, so your hair does not become drier, esepecially if your hair and your scalp tend to run on the dry side. Overall, the Shampure and the conditioner are good products though. I would use them again, if I weren't such a product junkie and didn't have to try everything, even when something is working for me!

Rosemary Mint Shampoo and Conditioner : Now for the Bad Reviews

Ok, I do really generally love Aveda, let me say that first of all, but the Rosemary Mint line of shampoo and conditioner just did not agree with my hair. It made my hair dry, dry, dry! I actually talked to one of my other friends who is an Aveda loyalist, and she said the same thing about the Rosemary Mint product.

She said that she'd had good luck with most other Aveda products, but that you do have to watch what you pick, because some of their products will dry your hair and scalp out, especially if you naturally tend toward a drier head of hair. If you produce a lot of hair oil, and you have to shampoo often, you may see something like the Rosemary Mint products, but otherwise, I think this product really isn't for those that are looking to moisturize and condition, not dry and add volume.
